Description

Solder tiny surface mount parts without a soldering iron

Learn how to work with surface mount components using a stencil, solder paste, tweezers, and a reflow skillet. Participants will each build their very own Freeduino Pico - a brand new Arduino™ compatible microcontroller. The Pico is a small, breadboard friendly, open-source microcontroller designed for easier integration with breadboard prototyping or as a less expensive option for semi-permanent installations where a USB connection is desired.

This workshop will include a brief discussion of PCB design, surface mount parts, solder stencils, the Arduino™ bootloader, and the FTDI RS232 USB to Serial EEPROM options. If there's enough time we will even upload our first programs into our newly assembled microcontroller.

No experience with soldering, electronics, or programming is required although a steady hand and a good eye is always helpful.

This workshop will provide every participant with enough parts to make their own microcontroller.
